Films enable me to more accurately express my sensitive emotions;
soft, calm and nostalgic.

Hi, I'm Yuka Kawata, a Tokyo based Photographer.
I was born in 1982 and grew up in Akita, a city in northern Japan, which is surrounded by beautiful nature.
That’s the reason why I’m always attracted by the beauty of nature. I first became interested in photography in 2015 when my uncle taught me how to take photos using a film camera with a macro lens.

From that point on, I was extremely enthusiastic about seeing the splendid world through a lens, which was totally different what I see with my own eyes!

Since then, I love shooting the beautiful color of nature in natural light using film cameras, my “Mamiya 645” and “Nikon FM2/F80”.

I shoot both film and digital, but I always choose film when I create artistic works.
This is because films enable me to more accurately express my sensitive emotions; soft, calm and nostalgic textures.

I prefer to print on Japanese traditional Washi paper “Tottori Inshu Washi” to accentuate the softness.
"Tottori Inshu Washi" has been made for over 1300 years.
